Instructions

  1. Preheat oven:
    Set oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the beef:
    In a skillet, cook ground beef with chopped onion and garlic until browned. Drain excess fat. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  3. Mix the sauce:
    In a bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.
  4. Assemble the casserole:
    Layer half the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Spread half the beef mixture on top, then pour half the soup mixture over it. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, beef, and sauce.
  5. Add cheese and butter:
    Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese and dot with butter.
  6. Bake:
    Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour, then uncover and bake for another 15–20 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
  7. Serve:
    Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave until warm. This dish also freezes beautifully for up to 2 months.
