Here is a perfect, old-fashioned Peanut Butter Balls recipe — creamy, no-bake, and exactly the kind that goes viral because it tastes like childhood candy.
Ingredients
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 2–3 cups powdered sugar (start with 2 cups, add more as needed)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 ½–2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
- 1 tablespoon shortening or oil (optional, for smoother melting)
Instructions
1. Make the peanut butter dough
- In a mixing bowl, combine peanut butter, softened butter, vanilla, and 2 cups powdered sugar.
- Mix until smooth and thick.
- If the mixture is still sticky, add more powdered sugar until it becomes a soft dough you can roll.
2. Shape the balls
- Roll small tablespoon-size scoops into balls.
- Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Freeze for 20–25 minutes so they firm up.
3. Melt the chocolate
- Add chocolate chips to a microwave-safe bowl.
- Heat in 20-second intervals, stirring each time, until smooth.
- Add a spoon of oil or shortening if you want a glossy, smoother dip.
4. Dip
- Using a fork or skewer, dip each peanut butter ball into the melted chocolate.
- Let excess drip off.
- Place back on parchment.
5. Chill & Serve
Refrigerate for 20 minutes until the chocolate is set.
Enjoy!
Variations
- Buckeyes: Leave the top uncovered (classic Ohio style).
- Crunchy version: Add crushed cornflakes or Rice Krispies.
- White chocolate version: Dip in white chocolate instead.
