Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ⅔ cup granulated sugar
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Alternative version (for thicker, quicker results):

  • 1 cup powdered milk
  • ⅔ cup sugar
  • ½ cup boiling water
  • 4 tablespoons butter

🥄 Instructions (Stovetop Method)

  1. Combine milk and sugar:
In a medium saucepan, whisk together the milk and sugar over medium heat.
  2. Simmer gently:
Bring to a low simmer, stirring frequently to dissolve the sugar. Continue cooking for about 30–40 minutes, or until the mixture reduces by about half and thickens slightly.
  3. Add butter and vanilla:
Remove from heat, stir in butter and vanilla (if using), and whisk until smooth.
  4. Cool and store:
Let cool completely before transferring to a glass jar. It will thicken further as it cools.

Quick Blender Method (Using Powdered Milk)

  1. Add powdered milk, sugar, butter, and boiling water to a blender.
  2. Blend for 2 minutes until smooth and creamy.
  3. Let cool — it will thicken to a condensed milk consistency.

🧊 Storage

  • Store in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
  • For longer storage, freeze in small portions (up to 3 months). Thaw overnight before use.

💡 Tips

  • Use evaporated milk instead of whole milk for an even creamier texture.
  • If it crystallizes slightly in the fridge, warm it gently and stir.
  • Works perfectly in key lime pie, fudge, tres leches cake, and coffee drinks.

Enjoy !!!
