How To Make All-Natural Mosquito Repellent Using a Mason Jar

Introduction

Tired of chemical sprays and store-bought repellents? This all-natural mosquito repellent is easy to make, eco-friendly, and smells amazing. Using a simple mason jar, citrus, herbs, and essential oils, you can create a beautiful and effective solution to keep mosquitoes away—perfect for patios, picnics, or cozy summer nights outdoors.

Ingredients

  • 1 mason jar (pint-sized or quart-sized)
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 1 lime, sliced
  • 2 sprigs of fresh rosemary
  • 10–15 drops of citronella essential oil (or use lavender, eucalyptus, or peppermint)
  • Water (enough to fill the jar)
  • 1 floating tea light candle

Instructions

  1. Layer the ingredients: Place the lemon and lime slices into the mason jar. Add the rosemary sprigs.
  2. Add the oils: Drop in 10–15 drops of your chosen essential oil. Citronella works best, but lavender or eucalyptus are also effective.
  3. Fill with water: Pour water into the jar until it’s about an inch from the top.
  4. Add the candle: Gently place the floating tea light candle on the surface of the water.
  5. Light and enjoy: When ready to use, light the candle and place the jar outdoors near where you’re sitting. The heat will help diffuse the scent and repel mosquitoes naturally.
