Old fashion Sausage Cheddar Biscuits

These biscuits combine the flaky, buttery goodness of Southern-style biscuits with the rich flavors of savory sausage and sharp cheddar cheese. They’re perfect on their own, paired with gravy, or served alongside eggs for a filling breakfast.

Ingredients (Makes about 12 biscuits)

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • ½ cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 cup cooked breakfast sausage, crumbled and drained
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • ¾ cup buttermilk (cold)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Set oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Cut in butter: Add cold butter cubes and cut into flour using a pastry cutter or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add sausage & cheese: Stir in crumbled sausage and shredded cheddar.
  5. Add buttermilk: Pour in buttermilk and mix just until dough comes together (do not overmix).
  6. Shape biscuits: Turn dough onto a floured surface, gently pat to 1-inch thickness, and cut with a biscuit cutter.
  7. Bake: Place biscuits on baking sheet and bake for 12–15 minutes, until golden brown on top.
  8. Serve: Brush with melted butter if desired, and serve warm.
