Ring-a-ling Sweet Rolls

Ring-a-Ling Sweet Rolls are an old-fashioned bakery-style treat that many people remember from neighborhood bakeries and family kitchens. These soft, lightly sweet rolls are shaped into rings, baked until golden, and finished with a simple vanilla glaze that gives them their signature shine.

They’re perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a cozy afternoon coffee break. The dough is soft and buttery, while the glaze adds just the right touch of sweetness.

Yield and Timing

Makes 12 sweet rolls
Prep time: 20 minutes
Rise time: 1 hour
Bake time: 15–18 minutes

Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ¾ cup warm milk (110°F / 43°C)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

For the Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional:

  • Sprinkles
  • Crushed nuts

Preparation

Activate the Yeast

In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy.

Make the Dough

Add sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir to combine.

Gradually add flour while mixing until a soft dough forms.

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Shape the Rolls

Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.

Roll each piece into a rope about 8 inches long, then form into a ring and pinch the ends together.

Place rings on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Bake

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the rolls are lightly golden.

Add the Glaze

In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.

Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls and allow it to set slightly before serving.
